SANITATION UPDATES

To All Residents: Town offices will be closed on Monday, January 16, 2012. The following Sanitation schedule change will be in effect for the week of January 16th. Garbage and/or recycling normally collected on Monday will be collected on Tuesday, 1/17. Garbage and/or recycling normally collected on Tuesday will be collected on Wednesday, 1/18. There will be no bulk trash collection on Wednesday, January 18th. Pick-up for organic yard waste in brown bags will be suspended during the week of January 16th.

County Mandated Commingled Recycling Change
:   Effective June 1, 2011 plastic containers coded 3 through 7 will be added to the County’s list of mandated recyclables under the Westchester County Source Separation Law.  This includes most plastic personal care and food packaging waste, such as medicine and shampoo bottles, yogurt cups and take-out food containers.  At that time, all residents, businesses, schools and institutions will be required to source separate plastics coded 1 through 7 as part of their commingled recycling.

Brush Pickup will be scheduled for the last week of each month and should be at curbside by the beginning of the week. The first week scheduled will be the week of March 28, 2011. As a reminder, brush should be tied in 3’ bundles.  Logs are not picked up by the Town.

Thank you.

*** Recycling Days***  Please note, the day of the week that recycling is picked-up has not changed with the implementation of curbside garbage collection.  For example, if your recycling was previously picked-up on Monday, it will continue to be picked-up on Monday, Tuesday on Tuesday, etc.

*** Clarification - Wednesday Bulk Trash ***  The rules for Bulk Trash collection have not changed.  Items that are considered metal, electronics, and/or appliances must be called into the Sanitation Department at 670-3200 to be placed on a list for pickup.  Pickup of these items will only be done at houses that are on the weekly list.  With the exception of metal, electronics, and/or appliances all other bulk trash can continue to be placed curbside on Tuesday nights without calling for an appointment.  Wednesday Bulk Trash is suspended during a Holiday week.
